01Define the occupancy cycle
Start when loading begins and end when the oven is ready for the next batch. Include product heat-up, soak, any in-oven cooling and unloading. Record waits for fixtures, trucks or operators separately. Avoid counting the first startup allowance twice.
Identify which activities can actually overlap. An external cooling position or second truck changes the sequence but does not automatically remove all handling delays.
02An eight-hour shift example
| Item | Assumption | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Shift | 480 minutes | Start to finish |
| Preparation / cold startup | 30 minutes | 450 minutes remain |
| Planned interruption | 30 minutes | 420 minutes remain |
| Complete batch cycle | 80 minutes | floor(420/80) = 5 completed batches |
| Shift target | 500 parts | At least 100 parts/batch, before quality losses or rework |
03Average capacity is not shift completion
At 100 parts per 80-minute cycle, ideal long-run output is 75 parts/hour. In this shift, startup and interruption leave room for five full cycles, or 500 completed parts. Multiplying 75 by eight would overlook the stated schedule. A batch finishing on the next shift needs an explicit handover and counting rule.
The example assumes equal batches and no extra failures or rework. Use operating records to establish realistic available time rather than counting unfinished loads as finished product.
04Verify the proposed loading pattern
A requirement of 100 parts per batch does not establish that 100 packed parts can follow the proposed recipe. Check shelf loads, airflow gaps, fixture mass and product-temperature records at the intended load.
Send a loading sketch and shift timeline with the temperature requirement, supply and cross-shift constraints. Use the sensible-heat tool for product and fixtures; other thermal loads remain separate.
