Recirculation and exhaustCheck both air paths.

A running fan does not explain whether a load is receiving useful airflow or whether released moisture can leave the oven. A slow drying result needs both questions investigated.

  • Separate the air streams
  • Record removal per batch
  • Keep a comparable process log

Drying processBy Dianrezhan中文版 ↗

01Identify the three air streams

StreamFunctionUseful records
RecirculationMoves air repeatedly through heat and load areasFlow direction, obstructions and return path
ExhaustRemoves air carrying process moisture or vaporsMeasured conditions, duct route and damper state
MakeupReplaces discharged air within the designed balanceInlet, room-air provision and design requirements

02Quantify what is removed

Suppose a wet batch weighs 120kg before processing and 100kg afterward. If a trial confirms that the difference is water removal, that is 20kg per batch. Over a two-hour removal period, the average is 10kg/h. Release can vary during the cycle; this average is not the peak.

Use consistent weighing and cooling conditions. Solvent evaporation, reactions or product losses can invalidate the water-only assumption. A removal average does not specify exhaust flow without air-state and process-release information.

03Record a slow-drying run before adjustment

Keep product temperature, loading photographs, batch mass, moisture or removal data, duration and any available exhaust or humidity measurements. Check for deeper beds, blocked design flow paths or changed ductwork.

An airflow adjustment can change both heating response and distribution. Follow the equipment instructions and process requirements, then compare the same loading arrangement. Do not close required exhaust simply to shorten the time shown on the temperature controller.

04Treat solvent release as a separate review

Supply the substance name, safety data sheet, quantity and release profile for an equipment and process assessment. A setup intended for water removal cannot be assumed suitable for flammable vapors.

There is no universal damper position or exhaust ratio in this article. Document the conditions before proposing a change.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

01Can high recirculation replace exhaust?+

No fixed ratio makes them interchangeable. Heat transfer, release rate, air conditions and process hazards must be considered.

02Does more exhaust always dry faster?+

Makeup air, heating capacity and distribution also change. Verify the result within the equipment and process requirements.

03Does reaching the air setpoint prove drying is finished?+

No. Use the process-specified moisture, mass or other endpoint assessment.
